The sphere of scientific interests – social and economic and demographic aspects of migratory processes in Russia and CIS countries. Author more than 500 scientific publications, including monographs: "Influence of migration on a social-economic development of Europe: current trends" (2001), ""Demographic prospects of Russia" (2008), "Labor migration in CIS and Baltic countries: tendencies, consequences, regulation" (2008), "Labor emigration of women from Russia: departure, employment and protection of the rights (2008), The atlas of demographic development of Russia" (2009), "The Chinese migration to Russia: consequences, tendencies and approaches to regulation" (2010), "Traffickingin Human Beingsfor Labour Exploitation and Irregular Labour Migration in the Russian Federation: Forms, Trends and Countermeasures" (2014), etc. 
The head and the participant of the research projects executed for international organizations (UNHCR, International Organization for Migration, the International Labor Organization, the United Nations Population Fund, The Economic Commission for Asia and the Pacific region, the Council of the Baltic States, United Nations Development Programme and etc.) and for the Russian state structures (the Federal Migration Service, the Ministry of Labor and Social Development of Russia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the State Duma and others) in the field of migration. The member of Advisory Council at Council at the Russian President for implementation of priority national projects and population policy, Public council of FMS of Russia, Scientific Council of FMS of Russia.
